Lecture Summary

Critical appraisal is an important skill to learn and apply for health care professionals. To understand the usefulness of research findings for future use in practice, education or research, it is vitally important to be able to assess the quality of a research study report. It is necessary to understand what was done and how data were gathered to know whether the findings have credibility. The appraisal process for a quantitative research report follows a systematic approach to assess both carefully and objectively the strengths, weaknesses, meaning and significance of research results.
