Lecture Summary

The talk aims to provide a deeper understanding of the complexity behind the development of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and why combinations of antiemetics are required, exploring CINV’s pathophysiology. It sets the scene by identifying how much of a problem CINV is. It then highlight areas where nurses (and other clinicians) have a role to play in the management of CINV, including understanding antiemetic guidelines and how much of a difference they make in practice, prevention being better than treatment, the impact of CINV on patients’ lives, who is at more risk of CINV and the need for patient education and more knowledge about CINV in clinicians.
