Lecture Summary

This video provides a short discussion around education the global oncology workforce focusing on cancer nurses. I start by looking at why we need to provided education for cancer nurses around the world, the lack of access that some nurses have to cancer nursing education, and the impact of cancer nursing education on cancer care as a whole. I then briefly explain some of the different terminologies that are used such as education, training capacity building etc, and how important they are within cancer nursing education. Whilst there is recognition of the need for cancer nursing education, there are challenges to the provision of such education, particularly in low in come settings and these are discussed along with some strategies for overcoming them. I highlight the variety of training approaches that cane, adapt be used and then use examples to show how we can advocate for more cancer nursing education and then discuss examples of some of the frameworks available in different parts of the world, finishing by sharing the ISNCC Cancer Nursing Education Position Statement along with the importance of evaluation.
