In this presentation, Dr van Diepen highlights a pragmatic clinical definition of cardiogenic shock and contrasts this with clinical trial definitions. The rationale, framework, and validation of the original SCAI cardiogenic shock acuity staging pyramid is presented. Risk modifiers to the SCAI pyramid are presented including differences in acuity, cardiac arrest, end-organ hypoperfusion, and clinical phenotypes.
