Lecture Summary

Cancer nursing in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is undergoing major changes over the next 12 months. In September 2023 Port Moresby General Hospital (POMGEN) is opening a brand new Cancer Centre that will provide improved chemotherapy services and a radiation oncology service. This will transform cancer care in Papua New Guinea. The oncology nurses, therefore, need education and knowledge in order to support patients. However, challenges will still persist such as access to POMGEN from patients from the highlands and remote areas, superstition and sorcery practices that are pervasive throughout PNG, and the often lack of early diagnosis.

Target Audience

Oncology nurses
Trainee oncology doctors
