Lecture Summary

Team work and team leadership are essential non-technical skills in critical care medicine. Remember to identify who your team really are knowing this is a broader definition than in the past and includes the patient and their immediate family. Identify your role as a leader as well as your leadership styles- there are many and you need them at different times. Whilst you develop your skills as a team leader don’t forget to maintain and enhance your skills as a good team player. Use every opportunity to build and advocate for your team. Open communication encourages high quality care and it likely improves patient outcomes.
