Patients returning from overseas travel face a very different set of potential pathogens than seen in their home country. The degree of risk and the specific diseases they may encounter varies with the specific itinerary: where they went, what they did there, and where did they stay. This talk briefly discusses the risks to travelers and the most common conditions that cause travelers to seek care following their trip. It provides an overview of the symptoms and diagnosis of malaria, dengue fever, and traveler’s diarrhea. And provides suggestions for a workup for a fever in a returning traveler.
