Lecture Summary

For any ingestions or exposure the first thing you need to evaluate in the patient’s airway, breathing and circulation status. Attempt to identify if there is a toxidrome present or gain history from the patient, bystanders, family, or EMS as to what the patient may have taken/been exposed to so that you can do a risk assessment. Risk assessment means ingestion/agent, amount, consideration of decontamination, expected effects, and treatment plans. Specific physical exam findings or smells can help guide your diagnosis.
