Carol Peden

Professor of Anaesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine, USA

Dr. Carol Peden is Executive Director of the Centre for Health System Innovation and Professor of Anaesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. She is Vice Chair for Performance Improvement of the Perioperative Brain Health Initiative. Prof. Peden has designed and led quality improvement projects around the world and is a Fellow and Faculty of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). In 2016 she was named “Public Health Innovator of the Year” by Harvard School of Public Health for her work using quality improvement to improve outcomes for high risk surgical patients. Her research interests include innovation in healthcare, perioperative medicine, patient and person-centred care and patient safety.

Prof. Peden is dually accredited in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. She gained her medical degree and research doctorate in medicine at the University of Edinburgh in the UK, and has an MPH from Harward. She also is a visiting Professor at the University of Bath (UK) Centre for Health Innovation and Improvement.
