Dr Mulinda Nyirenda

Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi, East Africa

Mulinda Nyirenda is a Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine at
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi (formerly UNIMA-College of Medicine). She
has worked in the field of Emergency Medicine for 12 years – initiating academic emergency
medicine programs and establishing Emergency Medicine clinical practice in the Malawian
Health system. She contributes to emergency medicine education, clinical practice, mentorship
programs and research of various health professionals in Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh and USA.
She is a clinical researcher with an interest in acute care, infectious diseases, medical education,
medical Informatics and technology, and health care systems strengthening. She is an associate
editor of the African Journal of Emergency Medicine (Afjem) and a section editor of the AFEM
Handbook of Acute and Emergency Medicine. She serves on the African Federation of
Emergency Medicine(AFEM), International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM) and
Primary Trauma Care Foundation(PTCF) boards. She is a recipient of the William Rutherford
Award from Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) UK and was recognised for service
to the advancement of Global Emergency Medicine by the Academy for Women in Academic
Emergency Medicine and Global Emergency Medicine Academy in the Society for Academic
Emergency Medicine(SAEM).
