Dr. Justine Athieno Odakha is a pioneer resident in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) where she doubles as the chief resident. She is actively involved in undergraduate teaching of emergency care through didactics, bedside teaching, and simulation based teaching. Dr. Odakha was one of the facilitators of the first locally accredited ACLS course at MUST. As a resident, she has not only been involved in patient care but has also been a key participant in the process of restructuring the emergency department at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital to best deliver services and enhance training of emergency medicine. Before starting her masters’ studies, Dr. Odakha worked as a medical officer at Kiwoko Hospital. She led a clinical team in management of both elective and emergency cases in the hospital. She did her clinical internship at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Dr. Odakha is the Vice President of DELTA, an association that brings together all residents in emergency medicine all over Africa. She holds a degree in medicine and surgery (MBChB) from MUST. She has also been trained in short courses including; simulation facilitation, advanced life support courses, basic emergency care, helping babies breathe, and emergency obstetric care courses.
