Marc Schnekenburger

Dr Marc Schnekenburger is a Clinical Research Fellow at the NTRI, as well as an Emergency and Trauma Consultant at The Alfred. He was Director of Trauma at Dubbo Base Hospital NSW and continues to work as a Retrieval Consultant in the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Dubbo.

Dr Schnekenburger started his medical career in Germany as a paramedic (Rettungsassistent) serving ten years before completing his medical degree at the University of Munich, LMU, obtaining a “Drittes Staatsexamen”, Grade „sehr gut“ (top grade). After internships in the University Hospital of Munich and University of Berne, and three years at The Hospital of Munich (a Level 1 Trauma Centre), He migrated to Australia to further his career in Emergency Medicine and has been at the Alfred since 2012.

Marc has a particular interest in the management of trauma in rural Australia and he has implemented a trauma outreach program during the COVID pandemic. His interest in research covers management of chest trauma and he is part of the Alfred rib fracture and regional anaesthesia working group. At the NTRI, Dr Schnekenburger will continue to build his research interests and also continue his participation in the various international trauma education programs.
