Niklas Nielsen

Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Lund University, Sweden

Niklas Nielsen is a specialist in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care with a European diploma from the European Academy of Anesthesiology and the European Society of Intensive Care (DEAA and EDIC). His PhD was on Induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest, during which he founded and organized the International Cardiac Arrest Registry (INTCAR).  Prof Nielsen has been the chief principal investigator of two large international cardiac arrest trials on temperature management, the TTM-trial (2013) and the TTM2-trial (2021), recruiting approx. 3000 cardiac arrest patients at 70 hospitals in 16 countries. He is currently having a position as a professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Lund University, Lund Sweden. His research focus is on intensive care medicine and specifically on cardiac arrest, temperature management, neuroprognostication, biomarkers for critical illness and resources and health economy in intensive care. He is an honorary professorial fellow of The George Institute, Sydney, Australia and an honorary senior lecturer at Queen Mary University, London, UK.
