Rupert Pearse

NIHR Professor of Intensive Care Medicine, Queen Mary University of London

Rupert Pearse graduated in 1996 from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, UK. He also completed much of his clinical training in the southwest Thames region. His clinical duties are based on the busy Adult Critical Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital where he oversees the care of patients with critical illnesses of various causes. In 2006, Rupert was appointed Senior Lecturer in Intensive Care Medicine at Queen Mary University of London and was promoted to Professor in 2014. He is an active member of several national and international societies for anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. He leads the Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine Research Group. Rupert’s main research interest is in improving patient outcomes following major surgery and has led numerous large multi-centre randomised trials, epidemiological studies and mixed-methods research projects in his field.
